Kinda crazy how much money was lost due to phishing in 2007. You would think that email systems would protect against this stuff a bit better. Remember, never to login to any account from a link in an email. Go directly to the site you wish to goto and find the login area.

Phishing attacks in the US soared in 2007 as £1.6bn was lost to these attacks, according to a survey by Gartner.
The survey found that 3.6 million adults lost money in phishing attacks in the 12 months ending in August 2007, compared with 2.3 million the year before.
And the attacks were more successful in 2007 than they were in the previous two years, the survey found. Of consumers who received phishing emails in 2007, 3.3% said they lost money because of the attack, compared with 2.3% who lost money in 2006, and 2.9% in 2005, according to similar Gartner surveys during those years.

Noone can stop phishin it's a big industry and no one can stop
never
Actually there is some one who can stop phishing =)
It's customers. If all customers knew how phishing attacks work, there wouldn't be so much phishing.
the sad thing is....I know many people that like to open up every single email they get...even though they know it is spam...and take a whole day responding to them. People are so naive...
Sad yes I know If the subject stands out to me I click the phishing button in my drop down menu
A lot of this is caused by people not reading. Like banks PPs everyone has security info. These type just click on register new account, fund it only to promptly send those funds to a scammer/phisher the week after
GoldPoll.com Weekly Newsletter - August 26, 2008 (#183)
-- Everyone received "phishing emails" at least once. Nowadays it is one of the most widespread types of Internet/email scam, phishing emails is included in the Top 10 Internet/Email Scams. Studies indicate that over 80% of all e-mail is spam. Spam is the preferred delivery way of fraud and abuse on the Internet. Malware and phishing normally start with a spam e-mail. Phishing schemes are designed to steal personal and financial information. Such emails resemble legitimate companies like eBay, PayPal. They entice you to visit a phony web page, to enter your private information like your ID and password. They can offer you a story of how your account has been attacked by hackers to lure you to enter a confidential information (commonly under the guise of an urgent need to "confirm your identity"). The email message will require you to click on a hyper-link, but instead of leading you to the real login https: site, the link will redirect you secretly to a fake website. Where you'll ent
er your ID and password. This information will intercepted by the scammers. Later they will access your account to steal your funds. To avoid a such kind of fraud, check URL of a website you have visited. The beginning of the address should have https:// , phishing fakes just have http:// (with no "s"). If you are still in doubt, make a phone call to the financial institution to verify the email. Be skeptical about any email that asks you to login through a link in the email. No legitimate online financial service will ever ask you to login this way. In 2007, an estimated $7.1 billion was lost due to phishing, viruses and malware in the United States, alone. Given that the estimated losses in 2006 was a mere $2 billion, it shows that the problem is a growing one. Worldwide estimates put the losses at about $100 billion.
